Partnership between Zooparque and Blue Stone Metals creates Visual Audio Center of one of the rarest birds in the world
The Mergus octosetaceus is one of the most threatened waterfowl in the world, considered critically endangered at the global level.
Some of these rare birds are in the Zooparque – Itatiba, but are not exposed to the public, are isolated in a breeding center that aims at maintenance and reproduction under human care.
This is a pioneering project in the world, an integral part of the PAN – National Action Plan for the Conservation of the Mergus octosetaceus, coordinated by ICMBio / MMA (Ministry of Environment).
Until then, visitors did not have access to the birds, so they were isolated in order to maintain the lowest level of interference on the species in order to contribute to the issues of reintroduction in nature.
The Audio-Visual Center “Eye on the Duck” was created by initiative of Blue Stone Metals, a business partner of the project, which has in its DNA the Social and Environmental Responsibility, which already sponsors other actions for the benefit of the species.
Now, when they arrive in the maternity area, visitors will have access to two screens: an explanatory on the history of the program and another with images of the enclosures in real time, where people can watch the ducks and their ducklings.
From Saturday, August 8th 2018, the Zoopark visitors can closely monitor one of the most endangered species of waterfowl in the world extinction, through the Audio Visual Center “Eye on the duck.”
